How The Dry Ice Is Different From Normal Ice? Why It Is So Dangerous?

These days, an incident in Gurugram, Haryana is in the news. After having dinner at Laforcesta Cafe located in Sector 90, 5 people Neha Sabarwal, Manika Goenka, Pritika Rastogi, Deepak Arora and Himani asked for mouth freshener and were given dry ice. After this, the condition of all of them worsened due to vomiting of blood. The police immediately reached the spot and started investigation.

The restaurant manager told the police that the waiter did not do anything intentionally. He had given dry ice by mistake. Forensic investigation also confirmed that dry ice proved dangerous. Now a question must have arisen in everyone’s mind that what is this dry ice? Why it is dangerous and where it is used? let’s find out…

Dry ice may look like normal ice, but it is not wet. As far as the difference between these two is concerned, normal snow is the frozen form of water. Dry ice, on the other hand, is a solid form of carbon dioxide. The temperature of normal ice is minus 2-3 degrees, which turns into water when it melts. In contrast, the temperature of dry ice is minus 80 degrees and instead of melting, it turns into smoke.

It is forbidden to touch dry ice made of carbon dioxide

Dry ice is made by cooling carbon dioxide to 109 degrees Fahrenheit, causing the gas to solidify. Dry ice is so cold that even the fingers stick. Therefore even touching it is prohibited. Gas keeps coming out from dry ice. This may even lead to an explosion. It should not be kept in an air tight box.

Where is dry ice used?

The big thing is that if it is so dangerous then where is it used. In fact, the smoke that billows on the stage during weddings, parties, movies etc. is the magic of dry ice.
