Chandrayaan-4 : India’s Next Mission Will Land On Moon With Astronauts, ISRO Gives Big Update

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chief S Somnath said that the next installment of the Chandrayaan program is under development, which will take forward the country’s Moon Exploration. He said Chandrayaan-4 is the first step towards achieving India’s goal of landing an astronaut on the Moon in 2040. Addressing a press conference, S Somnath said, “Chandrayaan-4 is a concept that we are now developing as a continuation of the Chandrayaan series. Honorable Prime Minister has announced that an Indian will land on the Moon in 2040. “So, if this is to happen, we will have to continue exploring the Moon in a variety of ways.”

S. Somnath said, “Chandrayaan-4 is the first step towards taking a spacecraft to the Moon and collecting samples and bringing them back to Earth. “It represents the whole cycle of going to the Moon and coming back to Earth.” ISRO is working on many other projects ranging from rocket and satellite projects to technology development projects. He said, “We have many projects at present, which include rocket projects, satellite projects, application projects and technology development projects. “We have about 5-10 rocket projects, about 30-40 satellite projects, and 100s of application projects and thousands of R&D projects.

Last year, ISRO had successfully landed Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar surface. India became the fourth country to do so after America, Russia and China. India’s solar mission Aditya L-1 was also successful in early 2024. Now this year India’s most ambitious mission is Gaganyaan. On this mission, India will send its astronauts to space for three days. This mission will be carried out in July as per the pre-determined schedule.
