The number of permits that Indian students get to visit Canada is continuously decreasing. According to reports, about 86 percent fewer Indian students have received permits. A senior Canadian government official has said that the end of last year saw a sharp drop in permits. This happened because India expelled Canadian diplomats who had completed the permit process. India’s crackdown amid the dispute over the Khalistan issue resulted in fewer students applying to study in Canada than before.

India expelled 41 Canadian diplomats

Amid the strained relationship between the two countries, Immigration Minister Miller believes that this tension is likely to have a negative impact on the education world. He said that the applications coming from India have decreased due to tension. Apart from this, the number of officials engaged in taking action on them has also reduced to half. Let us tell you that in October last year, 41 Canadian diplomats were shown the way out of India.

Only 14,910 students got permits in the last quarter

According to official data, permits issued to Indian students in the fourth quarter of last year fell by 86 percent compared to the previous quarter due to tensions. 1,08,940 permits were issued in the July-September quarter. Permits were issued to only 14,910 students last quarter. C Gurus Ubramaniam, adviser to the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, said some Indian international students are also considering other options due to the decline in hostels and academic standards at Canadian institutions.

Annual revenue of 13.64 trillion rupees to the treasury of Canada

It is also interesting that 41 percent of the total students going to Canada in 2022 were Indians (2,25,835 students). With the departure of such a large number of students, the economic position of Canada is also strengthened. According to estimates, the annual revenue is about 22 billion Canadian dollars or 16.4 billion US dollars. This amount in Indian currency is Rs 13.64 trillion.

Why is Canada the first choice?

About the data, Miller said how diplomatic relations will improve? He has no concrete answer to this question. He said that the Canadian government is also facing the challenge of a large number of students coming from other countries besides India. He said that the number has gone out of control, efforts are being made to stop it. It is worth noting that Canada is a favorite place to study because students can easily get a work permit after completing the course.
