Maldives Ultimatum: President Muizzu Said-No Indian Soldiers Should Be Seen In The Country After 10th May

Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu, known as China’s spoon, does not seem to be softening his attitude towards India. After the military agreement with China, now another tough decision of the Maldives government has come to the fore. Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu has given an ultimatum to Indian soldiers. Issuing a Tughlaqi decree, Muizzu said that no Indian soldiers should be seen in Maldives after May 10. No one will get permission to live here, even if he lives in plain clothes.

The noteworthy aspect is that Maldives, located 450 miles from India in the Indian Ocean, holds strategic importance. On one hand, India is engaged in the redevelopment of major ports of Maldives, while on the other hand, China is also giving huge loans for the construction of infrastructure. For the first time in 1988, Indian soldiers had arrived to help the then President of Maldives. Although Maldives and India have maintained good relations since then, recent Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu is seen as a supporter of China. Muizzu’s biggest agenda is to remove Indian soldiers from his country.

As soon as he became the President, Indian soldiers were asked to leave the country, but now this tension increased further when 3 ministers of Maldives made objectionable comments after seeing the pictures of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep. When the controversy deepened, the Maldives government had to suspend the three ministers who made the comments.

On the other hand, amidst deteriorating relations with India, the closeness between Maldives and China is increasing. Amidst the tension, Maldivian President Muizzu went on a 5-day visit to China. After returning from China, Maldives President Muhajju is continuously attacking India. Along with this, recently two military agreements have been signed between Maldives and China. After these agreements, Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu has said that no Indian soldiers should be seen in Maldives after May 10.
