Farmer’s Protest: Uncontrolled Farmers Entered The Capital With Tractors

Not only in India, farmers in other countries of the world have also launched a movement against the government. Farmers’ protests have been going on since January in 10 European countries – France, Poland, Spain, Germany, Italy, Greece, Romania, Belgium, Portugal and Lithuania. Meanwhile, the situation went out of control in Italy on Thursday when protesting farmers entered the capital Rome with their tractors.

It is noteworthy that in view of climate change, the European Union has made many changes in the laws. Apart from this, inflation is also troubling people across Europe since the start of Ukraine war. Concerned farmers believe that all these policies of the government are harming their livelihood. Farmers say that they should be kept out of climate change rules and the use of pesticides in agriculture should not be banned. Pino Convertini, a farmer representative, said, ‘Farmers do not have bargaining power over prices, we do not have bargaining power over political choices made from above. So what should we do?”

During this demonstration, on Thursday 15th February, the same situation happened in Italy’s capital city Rome as was seen on the streets of India’s capital Delhi on 26th January 2021. They went out of control and entered the capital Rome with their tractors. Peasants stormed the ancient Circus Maximus. They started running their tractors around it, during this demonstration there was a scuffle between the police and the farmers. A group of farmers also gathered near the office of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Apart from this, the farmers also reached the European Union office with their demands, where they handed over their complaint letter to the officials.
