Dhaniram was born in 1939 in an ordinary family in Bhiwani, Haryana. He has also lived in Narela, Delhi and recently lived in Burari. Dhaniram Mittal did his graduation degree (LLB) in law from a university in Rohtak. According to police records, during his studies in 1964, Dhaniram was arrested by the RTO of Rohtak on charges of making a fake driving license. Later, he got recruited in Railways through fake documents. Also worked as station master from 1968-74.
An incident in the 1970s was in the news. It is said that when Dhaniram Mittal read the news of the order of departmental inquiry against the Additional Judge of Jhajjar in the newspaper, he made it a part of his fraud. After reaching the court and gathering information, a letter was typed and sealed in an envelope, which was stamped and signed by the Registrar of the High Court and posted in the name of the judge facing the departmental inquiry. In that letter, Dhaniram had prepared a fake order for two months leave.
Considering the fake order to be correct, the judge went on leave and a letter arrived the next day asking for a new judge to take charge in his place. On the appointed date, Dhaniram Mittal reached the court dressed as a judge. The court staff considered him correct and gave him the chamber. After this, in 40 days, fake judge Dhani Ram granted bail to 2740 accused in various crimes and gave hundreds of other decisions. However, one good thing is also said that the fake judge did not grant bail to the accused in any serious case.
More than 150 cases are registered against Dhaniram in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. LLB pass swindler Dhaniram himself used to defend his cases. Not only this, he was considered a master of handwriting. In October 2022, a director had signed a film on the biography of gangster Dhaniram Mittal.
