BMC Became Country’s Largest Corporation, Collected So Much Property Tax IFfinancial Year

Mumbai : The country’s richest civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has collected more than Rs 2000 crore through property tax in the current financial year 2023-24. BMC itself has given this information. BMC said it has collected Rs 2,213 crore through property tax in the current financial year. In a press release issued on Wednesday, BMC said that the assessment and collection department has collected the amount.

BMC said that the highest amount of Rs 174.15 crore has been collected in K-West ward in Western Suburbs. After this, Rs 170.77 crore has been recovered from S-ward. Whereas Rs 168.34 crore has been recovered from H-East ward. The press release said that the civic body has collected property tax of Rs 9.51 crore from government-owned properties. Among the top 10 property owners tracked down by the department for tax collection was a private company from S-ward in the eastern suburbs. The company’s property tax bill was Rs 49.12 crore, followed by another company in the city’s G-South ward, which had a property tax bill of Rs 20.84 crore.

BMC said in a release that the department is currently focusing on recovery of large property tax bill dues in the city and its suburbs besides recovery of past dues. The civic body also highlighted that continuous efforts are being made through various means to meet the property tax collection target for the financial year 2023-24.

BMC said that its 24 ward offices are continuously witnessing huge rush of citizens to pay property tax. BMC has urged citizens to cooperate by paying their taxes before the deadline of March 31. Civic convenience centers in all 24 administrative wards and BMC headquarters in the fort will remain open from 8 am to 10 pm till March 30 and till midnight on March 31 so that property owners can pay the tax.
