In fact, farmers in Belgium are angry about red tape and cheap imports from countries where there is no obligation to meet the high standards of the European Union. Earlier this month, the farmers’ protest took a violent turn when European Union leaders were attending a conference. The farmers reached there and threw eggs and firecrackers at the police. Farmers also set fire in front of the European Parliament. Since then this demonstration has continued continuously.

As The Police Told
Brussels police said that about 900 farmers riding on tractors had reached the city on Monday. Farmers parked their tractors on the main roads of the city due to which traffic was disrupted. Some tractors even broke through the barriers that the police had set up to block their path. These people reached near the European Union building where ministers were meeting. Police used tear gas and water cannon to suppress the farmers’ movement. In response, farmers sprayed fertilizer on them. Now Interior Minister Alice Verlinden has directed that protesters who have caused harm to the public or violated authorities’ instructions be identified. He said that the right to protest should be exercised with respect.
