The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service has been formally inaugurated at the Eiffel Tower in France during the Republic Day celebrations. The Indian Mission in France shared this update on social media platform X (earlier Twitter), saying that the initiative is a step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of taking UPI global.
With this, tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower in Paris can now easily book their trip through India’s UPI. National Payments Corporation of India’s international subsidiary, NPCI International Payments (NIPL) has partnered with French e-commerce and payments platform Lyra to enable acceptance of UPI payments in France, starting at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. .

At an event organized by the Indian Embassy in France to commemorate India’s Republic Day, NPCI announced that Indian tourists visiting the Eiffel Tower can now efficiently purchase tickets online using the UPI payment system. This initiative is designed to simplify the transaction process. To ensure that it is fast, convenient and seamless.

France President Was The Chief Guest On Republic Day
It may be mentioned that French President Emmanuel Macron was the chief guest during the 75th Republic Day celebrations and he was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jaipur. On this occasion PM Modi’s use of UPI for payment surprised and impressed the French President.
